This revised edition is the 6th printing of Sprout Garden and includes a few words about MicroGreens which is a bit of prelude to Mark’s upcoming book specifically focused on MicroGreens! This book is a good guide to sprouting. Particularly helpful is the number of sprouting methods covered: Jar Sprouting, MicroGreen, Bag Sprouting, Tray/ Plate Sprouting, Towel Sprouting, Saucer Sprouting, Soil Sprouting.
Mark also has a section covering each of the most popular sprouting seed types in a bit of depth and a recipe section so you know what to do with your sprouts after you grow them. Recipes include several tasty sauces, sandwiches and some really good specialties such as Buckwheat Falafel Balls and “Girl Sprout Cookies”. Mark is a Vegan and an avid sprouter and clearly knows what he is talking about. Regardless of your position on food, Mark has a cleaver food grading system which he covers in his book, in a nut shell there are three main criteria Fresh, Raw and Whole. Food which is all 3 gets and A, food which meets two of the three gets a B, one of the 3 a C and none of the 3 a D for “dead”. His guide is a clever and a good reminder to at least consider as we select food to eat.
In addition to the information above, the book has a nice “sprout-at-a-glance” chart in the back of the book and a section on sprouting safety.
